Start-Ups & TQM Total Quality Management (TQM) helps a business to ensure adherence to quality and to meet customer as well stakeholders’ expectations. It is such a powerful concept that allows not just a particular area of an organization to be excellent but the entire functioning and delivery. I always held the view that TQM becomes a scarce concept only in large, multi-unit organizations. In a typical large organization with several verticals, focus on TQM potentially becomes a rare thing because it is just not part of the organizational culture from Day 1 and it becomes a very complex and humungous task to implement in a grown up organization. The lack of TQM could reflect at many different levels and across functions, for example from Business Development to Human Resources Management and within a team in one vertical to handling customers and external stakeholders. Small day to day operational aspects such as to prepare for a meeting with a potential business p

A good start

When I arrived at IE in April, I was excited about the 13 month journey ahead of me. Apart from the academics, I was also looking forward to the extra-cirricular activities in the form of clubs, especially. There was a huge collection of clubs representing functional areas, geographical areas and other activities. I was quiet surprised though, that there was no representation of UK on IE campus. In a business school of very high standing such as IE, to have no representation of an important world econmy such as UK, I felt that is not right. Furthermore, I lived in UK the last 8 years, graduated and started my career in the wonderful city of London. So, I felt an urge to start a new club to represent UK on IE campus. The result is IE UK Club Madrid Chapter. Along with the regualr activities of any club, which to arrange Key spealers, Seminars, Information sessions and workshops, I wanted to do something different, something that is pretty common in many universities but non-existan

Consulting Firms Enter Social Media

A recent report from The Bloom Group, BlissPR and The Association of Management Consulting Firms (AMCF) has revealed that Consulting Firms are making moves to enter the Social Media with significant proportions of their marketing budgets dedicated to Social Media. Social Media has transformed the way businesses are conducted. Many businesses are making huge investments into Social Media by managing their own blogs, creating LinkedIn groups, tweeting and such to interact directly with their customers. With many of their clients following the latest trend, it is a natural choice for Consulting firms to make their presence on Social Media. One of the underlying risks of Web 2.0 applications is the ability of interaction. As with any other business entering into Social Media, consulting firms have some risks. An article or a presentation could gain negative feedback in Social Media and it could spread within few minutes all across the globe. Irrespective of the scope of these risks, Cons

IE Business School - MBA Program

It is now nearly 3 weeks since I landed in Madrid. Having worked in London for the last 7 years, I never really thought that I would come to this wonderful city of Madrid to do my MBA program. Now after spending few days in the city and after some exceptional first impressions of the college, I am glad that I took a break in my career and came all the way to do a 1 year MBA. IE Business School is known for it's continous standing in the World's Top 10 Biz Schools Rankings and that has been a major factor behind my decision to come here. Looking at the criteria of the Rankings, one would get an idea of the facilities of the school and other academic parameters. But still, I was really curious until I got here and attended the classes on Day 1. I was curious to see what makes it stand apart from the rest of the Biz Schools? I am a great fan of Financial Times and followed FT Business School Rankings for a long time. So, I was curious to see in person the various facets of the sch
